Go to any old city. Walk down any street with buildings from the 1800s. Look at the ground level.
What do you see?
Windows that start at your ankles. Doors that lead into the dirt. Ornate archways half-swallowed by the earth. Decorative stonework disappearing into the sidewalk.
They tell you this is “settling.” That over 150 years, buildings just “sink” into the ground naturally.
